Free Swim Lessons!
Registration for 2025 Swim Lessons is ALMOST full!
We know how important it is to make sure our kids learn to swim. That's why we are committed to free water safety and swim lessons.
The Pend Oreille Rowing and Paddling Association, the Long Bridge Swim Association, and
the Albeni Falls US Corps of Engineers have partnered to bring free water safety instruction for
kids ages 1-17 to Priest River and the surrounding areas.
Classes
Please Note: All swim lessons will be held at the Riley Creek Recreation Area in Laclede, ID.
This basic water safety instruction will be taught by experienced water safety instructors in the
open water setting (not a pool) of the Riley Creek Recreation Area swim beach in Laclede, ID. All classes will be held in August.
From ages 1-17 we offer 4 class options:
- Ages 1-4 will receive 1/2 hour lessons for 3 days/week for two weeks.
- Ages 5-8 will receive 1/2 hour lessons for 3 days/week for two weeks.
- Ages 9-12 will have three 45 minute lessons for one week.
- Ages 13-17 will have three 45 minute lessons for one week.
All classes will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
Classes begin August 5th! See our Schedule Below!
Update! Many class times are closed! Please go ahead and register and if there are cancelations we will let you know if we can fit your child/children in.
We will try to place your child in the class time you request, however, if class sizes get too large, we may need to adjust your child to a different time. Parents can elect to have a slightly older/younger child placed with a sibling to assist in family scheduling. We will organize class sizes based on the number of instructors available. Classes may be cancelled for unforeseen circumstances or stormy weather. We will make every effort to notify parents as early as possible if classes are cancelled. Emails will be sent to participants in July reconfirming registration and providing any additional information. Please email questions to: [email protected]
WATER EXPLORATION: Ages 1-4
Parent or responsible adult is required to be in the water with their child. We typically see much better and faster results for younger children when you as their parents are helping and instructing too!

Partnership
We are a partnership between the Priest River Rowing and Paddling Association (PORPA), the Long Bridge Swim (LBS) in Sandpoint, and Albeni Falls US Corps of Engineers.
Our Motivation
Our work is based on saving lives through swim safety education. We believe it is our job and purpose to teach as many children we can to swim and/or be safe in and around the water as we can!
